Postgraduate Options

Postgraduate study is an increasingly popular option for many graduates. Approximately 30 per cent of graduates go on to further study, whether part-time or full-time, research or coursework. If you are contemplating postgraduate study this section provides useful information about postgraduate options in different disciplines.

Health Services & Support

Most students in this field are doing course work rather than research. Many programs are designed for those who are already qualified practitioners working in one of the many health professions and para-professions. There are some courses for those with qualifications and/or experience in other fields, mainly those combining health science with studies in management, public policy, occupational health and safety, and the like. There are also some qualification upgrade courses. Alternative approaches to health care (eg. acupuncture, naturopathy, herbal medicine, Chinese medicine) are making slower progress at the postgraduate level than the undergraduate level. Although many campuses offer programs in this field, the sub-divisions are so numerous and tightly defined that the range in a particular area is sometimes more limited than you would expect. However, if you can’t find what you want where you want it, a good number of courses are now available in distance mode. The number of external students has risen over the last couple of years.

If you are interested in this field you should also look at the options within Nursing, Social Work and Science.
