New Career Initiatives from DEST

The Commonwealth Government recognises the need to promote life-long learning to all Australians and to encourage them to develop the competencies that will allow them to deal successfully with the transitions in their careers. It is particularly important to provide quality careers counselling, guidance and information to support young people’s transition from school to further education, training or work.

The Commonwealth supports a range of career services: Job Guide, booklets and posters, the Career Counselling Programme, Career Information Centres and The Real Game. It has funded the development of www.myfuture.edu.au , which is a joint initiative of the Commonwealth, States and Territories.

myfuture Gives Career Options Online

myfuture is a unique and comprehensive online career exploration and information service. It has great potential to improve the provision of a range of careers information. Those who use the site will get a better understanding of career options, as the site links accurate and reliable information about occupation requirements, training, vocational education and job opportunities.

The myfuture website will assist all those interested in career exploration and those making career decisions. The site will be most beneficial to students (secondary school and tertiary) and those providing career counselling services. It will be invaluable to those currently unemployed as well as those employed but wishing to explore other options. The site will also be useful for parents, teachers and others who provide career advice.

The site is now available online at www.myfuture.edu.au .
