Graduate Careers Australia

Graduate Grapevine - Number 10, Autumn 2008

Graduate Opportunities Suite of Publications Continues to Grow

2008’s edition of Graduate Careers Australia’s flagship graduate jobs directory, Graduate Opportunities, was published in February, and was widely distributed among eagerly awaiting students and Careers Services staff at universities around Australia! The edition had a print run of 50,000 – our largest ever – and included comprehensive profiles of close to 150 employers (and summary details of many more).

The GO directory was also published in CD format giving students and graduates a choice as to how they access the wealth of information GO provides. While indications are that many students still prefer a hard-copy directory, CDs are far more economical to produce and are therefore a very cost-effective way of increasing GO’s overall circulation.

The GO team secured a significant increase in the number of advertisers – a result which reinforced the publication’s position as the premier graduate directory in Australasia.

As well as the main directory, the GO team delivered two specialised industry books – Graduate Opportunities in Engineering & IT 2008 and Graduate Opportunities in Accounting-Business-Finance 2008. For the first time ever, a dedicated ‘Kiwi’ directory for New Zealand graduates was also produced. GO! New Zealand 2008 includes details of both graduate and undergraduate opportunities, as well as NZ-specific career and industry content. The directory is being distributed throughout New Zealand over the Career Fair season.

An information brochure for international students was also produced in response to a clear demand from Careers Service staff and students.

Recent visitors to the GO website will have noticed it has been revamped. Website traffic statistics confirm that the GO site is a major medium through which students and graduates gain information about graduate employment opportunities. Indeed, comparative statistics indicate that traffic to the site has doubled over the last year (see table A).

Anecdotal reports from university Careers Services confirm that the site is popular with Careers staff as well as students.

The next GO directory to be published is Undergraduate Opportunities 2008 – a directory of vacation work, cadetships and other employment options for students due out in July.

Queries and feedback about GO directories and website can be emailed to [email protected] . We are creating a testimonials page for the website and would particularly appreciate hearing from students and graduates who have found GO helpful!
