Young Managers, Older Workers

Event Date: 25 July 2006
Location: Sydney

Companies are full of stories of fast-tracking young managers as a way of managing succession issues. However, there is evidence that younger managers can be intimidated by older workers. Fear can stem from lack of confidence and stereotypical attitudes labelling older workers as inflexible, unreliable and intimidating.

AHRI, in partnership with the Australian Government’s Mature Age Industry Strategy, have developed a one-day workshop that will provide strategies for improving confidence and attitudes of younger managers. Apart from the opportunity for personal growth, the program will assist young managers in ways that will ensure they are more capable of seeing the workplace potential of older subordinates, more skilful at leading them and retaining their skills and knowledge in the business, as well as being more ready to consider them when recruiting new talent.
