Board Profile: Professor Jane den Hollander

Jane den Hollander graduated from Wits University in Johannesburg South Africa with a first class honours degree in Zoology followed by a Masters degree. She was awarded a Fantham Memorial Scholarship for her PhD at the University of Wales in Cardiff.

After postdoctoral research and teaching in cell biology and chemistry in Cardiff, she took on a project to look at the careers of Science graduates which led to a career change and work with CSU Software as its inaugural manager at the University of Manchester.

Jane emigrated to Australia in 1993 and, after six years at the University of Western Australia, moved to Curtin University of Technology as its General Manager of Students and Staff in late 2000. An appointment as Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic Services) preceded promotion to Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic Services).

Jane now heads up a portfolio which includes the Curtin Business School and the divisions of Health Sciences, Humanities and Science and Engineering. The portfolio also includes Student Administration and Support, Human Resources, Library and ICT.

Jane has a wealth of experience of committees, including the Teaching and Learning Committee and Academic Board at Curtin. She has also contributed to national committees such as the recent Learning and Teaching Advisory Committee, and before that as a member of the inaugural Student Finances Survey Committee which produced the Paying their Way report in 2002.

Professor den Hollander is also a member of Graduate Careers Australia’s (GCA) Board. Jane started her association with GCA in 2006 and as part of that role is the Coordinator of the Survey Reference Group, a sub-committee of the GCA Board.
