Enhancing Graduate Research: the GCA Survey Forum November 2005

GCA is very grateful for the valuable contributions made by around 120 delegates to the 2005 GCA National Surveys Forum held at the Duxton Hotel Melbourne on 14-15 November. The active participation of delegates helped make the Forum a success. The first day contained a series of addresses intended to document the current and future dynamics surrounding the surveys. Day two consisted of a series of workshops and seminars focused on advancing best practice.

The Forum provided a major opportunity for seeding and evaluating conversations about the surveys, and for weaving insights from the Enhancement Project into practice. The Forum was generally seen to be a very productive means of developing understanding and community surrounding the surveys. The Forum aimed to enhance people’s awareness and understanding of current trends and activities surrounding Australia’s national graduate surveys. GCA also learned much from conversations and presentations about the surveys, and their role in institutions and across the sector.

The insights obtained via the Forum will now be incorporated into our ongoing research activities. The next few months will play a formative role in developing a new era of Australian graduate research, as GCA distributes further material on the Enhancement Project, develops the GCA SMART system, and implements greater access to survey documents and resources via the START package. Full project reports and resources are due for release in 2006.

GCA is keen to listen to and embrace the needs of all stakeholders. Please make contact with a member of the survey team with any feedback or ideas for development.
