It’s That Time of Year Again! NAGCAS & AAGE Are Just Round the Corner

Where has this year gone?!? It’s September and that means the annual NAGCAS and AAGE conferences are just weeks away; both proudly sponsored by Graduate Careers Australia (GCA) & Graduate Opportunities (GO).

‘Launching Careers…Learning Through Experience’ – NAGCAS 2007

The 27th Annual Conference of the National Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services will be held from 2-5 December 2007 and will be hosted by the University of Wollongong.

Australian higher education institutions compete on the national and international stage. Responding to the career aspirations of the students and the expectations of business, industry and government necessitates that the modern university provides innovative, effective and high quality career development learning.

Our graduates will enter labour markets where global options and skills shortages in key industry sectors are prevalent, and where individual graduate recruiting organisations have high expectations that graduates will have the right mix of knowledge and theory, practical workplace experiences and personal transferable skills; in essence – to be work ready.

Working towards this goal overarches the main themes of the 2007 conference:

  • Contributions of work-integrated learning to employability and career development learning.
  • Labour market issues such as skills shortages and global transitions.
  • Strengthening professional practices and networks within Australia.

As is usual at these events over the years our host at University of Wollongong will be presenting the conference dinner with the theme of ‘NAGCAS Goes to Bollywood’ – an evening not to be missed! This event is perhaps the best opportunity to hear about the latest research and exchanging ideas and best practice while enjoying an excellent meal. The question on everyone’s lips will surely be: what song will be rendered too us in true Scottish tradition this year by our colleague from QUT – Dr Alan McAlpine?!?

Graduates: How do you keep them riding high?
Attract, Acquire, Grow, Engage – AAGE Graduate Recruitment & Development Conference 2007

A graduate recruitment campaign addresses four key components, for each of which an employer must develop and deliver a concise, innovative strategy to ensure success. For many employers it is not only necessary to discover, attract and acquire the desired graduate talent into a business. An employer must then work towards engaging and developing the newly-discovered and appointed talent. It is this second stage that is becoming increasingly crucial. A successful development program typically sees a rise in staff morale, productivity, and importantly, retention.

The 2007 AAGE Graduate Recruitment & Development Conference will focus on these key areas through a series of informative keynote presentations, targeted workshops, panel sessions, industry discussion groups and professional development opportunities. The Conference will be balanced with quality social networking time to allow delegates the chance to meet industry peers from around the country, build their network and share experiences on an informal basis. The Graduate Recruitment Fair (trade expo) will provide delegates with a showcase of new ideas from peak industry suppliers.
