Australia

  • Employment rose by 1800 to 10,034,500. Full-time by 30,500 to 7,177,300, part-time decreased by 28,700 to 2,857,200.
  • Unemployment rose by 10,900 to 556,800. Full-time by 13,300 to 396,200, part-time by 2300 to 160,600.
  • Unemployment Rate rose by 0.1 percentage point to 5.3 per cent. Males by 0.1 percentage point to 5.2 per cent & females by 0.1 percentage point to 5.4 per cent.
  • Participation Rate remained at 64.4 per cent.

UK

  • AGR’s Graduate Recruitment Survey 2006 shows that graduate vacancies are predicted to rise by 14.6 per cent in 2006 – by sector: Manufacturing Engineering; Sales; R&D; Investment Banking; IT.
  • Graduate salaries grew by 7.1 per cent in 2005, median salaries are expected to rise 2.3 per cent in 2006.

  • NACE’s Salary Survey shows that employers intend to recruit 14.5 per cent more college graduates in 2005-06 than they hired in 2004-05.
  • Average Starting Salary gains: Accounting 6.2 per cent (US$45,723); Business Administration/Management 3.9 per cent (US$39,850); Civil Engineering 4.3 per cent (US$44,999); Liberal Arts & Sciences 6.1 per cent (US$30,828).
