Macquarie’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Steven Schwartz, declares that Macquarie is a university on the move. “Our aim is to push Macquarie into the top eight research universities in Australia and the top 200 in the world.” He believes we’re well on the way – boosting our research effort and ensuring our learning and teaching is of the highest class.
Macquarie has been recognised in the most recent Shanghai Jiao Tong University Academic Ranking of World Universities, being ranked equal eighth in Australia. A unique new undergraduate scholarship scheme is being offered that not only will generously reward students who have demonstrated academic excellence, but will have an equally strong commitment to equity. Macquarie emphasises social service and volunteering through the Global Futures Program which commenced in 2010 to support the university’s new curriculum. This is the first initiative of its kind in the Australian tertiary sector.
To support the transition of our students into employment, the Career Service offers a friendly and proactive service to employers. 2010 saw the introduction of a ‘bespoke’ career service offering to augment the existing ‘central’ service. This model was based on the setting of a strategic, theoretical and operating framework for service delivery with staff working from the central career office and, being aligned as ‘account managers’ for specific sub populations. These included Faculty Business and Economics, Human Sciences, Arts, Sciences, International and Post Graduate students.
